Guide lines & RULES
for HTB FLAG FOOTBALL Youth
League Nassau County
BASICS * All players should wear a mouth piece and
protective cups on the field * Field is 20 x 40 yards (A div.) 25 x 50 yards (B
div) 30 x 60 (C , D & senior div.) * Teams compete 6 on 6 with one (1) fixed first
down at mid-field. (Minimum 5 players) * Uniforms are a must on the field, everyone has
flag belt, if not, 1 hand touch counts * Games consists of two (2) 20 minute halves. Clock
continues to run and stops in the last
one (1) minute of play in both halves only. Each team gets 2 time
outs per half. * Home team will be determined by coin toss. Home
team has 4 choices. Defer, offense,
defense, direction. (To defer gives you choice in 2nd half,
opposing team has choice 1st)
GAME * Offense starts on their 5 yard line. Team has 4
downs to cross 1st down marker, if so,
they get 4 more downs to score, if not, the opposing team receives the
ball on their 5
yard line and vise-versa. (1 coach in the huddle to call plays while
game is in play) * Each offense has 40 seconds to call and start
execution of a play or they will be called
for a delay of the game * At the snap of the ball the referee will count 3
mississippi; defensive players must wait
for this before crossing the line.
(Even on a hand-off). No
blitzing. * QB is allowed one (1) forward pass, pitch backs
are ok and doesn’t count as forward
pass. Receivers must have 2 feet in bounds to be legal. Everyone is
eligible. * Offensive player can set a pick. Feet must be
planted. Raising of arms or forward
contact by offense is illegal. Ball carrier MUST avoid defensive player.
NO charging * If opposing team intercepts the ball they can run
it back for a TD. If they get flagged
the spot will be back at the 5 yd line (before mid-field) or mid-field
(before goal line) * After TD extra points are as follows… (1 pt) from
2 yd line or (2 pts) from 5 yd line * MERCY RULE: If a team is winning by more
than 18 pts, they get only 4 downs to
drive the length of the field and opposing team starts at mid-field. No
first downs
PENALTIES Defense –
Off-sides: add 5 yds and replay the down or “o” takes results
of the play Holding ball carrier: add 5 yds to where
runner gets flagged, down counts Interference: add 5 yds from original spot,
automatic 1st down or results of the play Ball stripping: add 5 yds from spot of the
foul, downs counts Personal fouls: add 10 yds from spot, down
counts give warning. (tackling or pushing) Offense –
Off-sides: back up 5 yds and replay the down or “d” can
decline penalty Flag shield: back up 5 yds from spot of
foul, down counts Interference: back up 5 yds from original
spot, down counts Illegal block: back up 5 yds from spot of
the foul, down counts Personal fouls: back 10 yds from foul, down
counts, give warning (charge or stiff arm) Pass beyond line of scrimmage: back 5 yds
from original spot, loss of down |
